What 1st Grade children learn in math

In 1st Grade, children count, read and order numbers to 120, add and subtract within 20, and start to see equal groups. They tell the time to the hour and half-hour and name common shapes.

Questions parents ask

Is the 1st Grade math test really free?

Yes. The test and the full report are free. You only enter your details at the end, to see the full report and to be matched to your nearest Success Tutoring center.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes for around 18 questions. There is no time limit, and children can skip any question they are unsure of.

What does the test cover?

Number and place value, adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing, fractions and decimals, and measurement and geometry, at the level expected in 1st Grade.

What if my child finds it hard?

The questions adapt: after a miss, the next question in that area is a little easier, so nobody gets stuck on a wall of hard questions. The report shows where they are working now and what to build next.

Is this a formal assessment?

No. It is a quick snapshot to help you see where your child is at. For a full picture, you can book a free assessment with a Success Tutoring teacher.

What happens to my child’s information?

Children never enter personal details. We keep only their year level and, if you give it, their first name. Your contact details are only collected from you, at the end, with your permission.
